From the department of trivia recording:
So Merriam-Webster's Online listed the 2004 most searched words on their website, which makes a good press release. #1 was "blog", which makes sense in a way for web newbies, and even some non-newbies. Not really a surprise when you think about it. Next came "incumbent", "electoral", "insurgent", "hurricane", and "cicada", again, not surprising given current events and this year. #7 "peloton : noun (1951) : the main body of riders in a bicycle race" is intersting, since it's the only one I didn't know already, and it just sorta sounds interesting on its own. I can imagine a 1950s movie spaceship captain asking his crew to turn on the peloton before launching into space. Again, "partisan", "sovereignty" fine. But the real shocker is #10 "defenestration". I can only guess someone google-bombed the m-w site for this one, or else people have some seriously weird interests. I can't imagine how this got to the top of the search pile. Is there something I should know about coming up? Weird. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
