I'm not a big Olympics follower, but I have noticed that almost all of US sport news is following not it (because that might make sense) but all the American hot-shots and their events like snowboarding.
Snowboarding is cool. Lots of people like it, while I'm terrible with any boards of any size under me, I can see why it could be fun for those with actual coordination. However I think about how long baseball and basketball took to get to the Olympics, and I can't help but wonder if they're just now trying to stack modern US sports in to get some interest going in the games. I mean, come one, American Idol is out drawing it in ratings. Perhaps they could throw in all kinds of US invented sports. BMX and skateboarding aren't in yet. Freeway shooting. Anything the US can claim to have invented and dominate in. Maybe we can just start making stuff up to get it in. Torilla throwing. Ultimate Frisbee but on fire; anything to get our medal count up and make us feel good about ourselves. The only consolation to me really is that many of the "US" stports are being won by other countries. Maybe that's an argument for keeping those events around.
