God I Love This Town

So we're staying at the Meridian, which is on the southern side of the main downtown peninsula, on the shores of an inlet called False Creek, because it looks like a river or creek mouth opening up into the bay, but if you follow it "upstream" it just ends after a half mile or so.

Anyway, two bridges cross it to the southern parts of town, Granville Street and Burrard Street. We've been crossing the Burrard St. bridge a lot since we've been here because that feeds into Kitsilano, an area where we're looking for apartments.

So last night we go over to Kits and have dinner and look at a place (nice one, btw, we'll probably put in an application for it) and head home only to find that the bridge is closed. Cops all over the place, a bunch of vehicles strewn all over the place up in the middle of the span, no getting across.

Not a huge problem - accident I figured - and we made our way back around to the Granville bridge and went home. Come to find out today that the reason the bridge was closed wasn't an accident. They're shooting a movie on it.

The movie is Chaos. It's a very, very popular title, but this one appears to be an action flick starring Jason Statham of Guy Ritchie film fame, (and more recently The Transporter, which appears to have done well enough to generate a sequel) along with Ryan Phillipe and Wesley Snipes. Last night they shot somebody rear-ending a truck in the middle of the bridge. Tonight there's going to be a hostage standoff and gunfight. Cool!

(Of course on the other hand, we once again need to get across False Creek to look at an apartment at 7:00. Oh well. At least here they post advance notice of the traffic accidents on the door of the local film school...)
