I once posted that I couldn't stand Joaquin Phoenix. I thought he was a horrible actor with no depth and a deadpan voice. I came to this conclusion after watching THE VILLAGE (a movie I still think is very silly).

Then, I watched GLADIATOR. Okay, so Joaquin can play a different kind of character and play it well.

Then, I watched LADDER 49. Okay, so Joaquin can play a real, genuine character, and he's actually likeable.

And then, I watched the teasers for I WALK THE LINE. Okay ... wow!

He looks like Cash. He talks like Cash. He moves like Cash. I'm told he sings like Cash. But more than that, he's true to Cash.

Damn.

Mr. Phoenix is a very gifted actor.

I stand corrected.
