2004-08-06 9:57 PM "I CAN'T WAIT..." and "SHIT" Mood: Contemplative Read/Post Comments (0) |
Today my boss used the phrase "I can't wait..." I don't know what he said after that, I wasn't really listening. But I starting thinking about the phrase "I can't wait..." This is a phrase that we use very often in our culture that has little actual meaning. I have said several times in the last few weeks "I can't wait to go back to school." Well actually, I can wait. I will not spontaneously combust if I have to wait until August 25th. Now the phrase "I can't wait to pee." THAT might have a little more meaning behind it. Maybe the person uttering this phrase really CANNOT wait. Or "I can't wait for my blood transfusion." THAT is also a phrase that would have some substance behind it. But not "I can't wait to go on vacation."
I understand that this isn't the biggest deal or the most important issue in our nation now. But it annoys me. Also, the wide vary of things we use the word "shit" for, is very annoying. Imagine a person from another country who is trying to follow a conversation. "This food is THE shit!" "This food tastes like shit!" "Put this shit on the food." "I have to take a shit because of the food." "I love this shit!" "That's shitty food." Now can you image the confusion the foreign person is experiencing right now? Now say "shit" repeatedly. Doesn't it even sound stupid? This is a word I think I am gonna try and take out of my vocabulary. It's a stupid word. These are a few of the things that annoy me. Well, these and pocket link. And the gnomes that steal my underware at 3:47AM. Those bastards are gonna get it. WISDOM FROM CARTOONS: "This is my swingset, and this is my slide, and this is my sandbox. I'm not allowed to go in the deep end. That's where the leprachaun lives. He told me to burn things." "I have no friends? What about you? You spend all your time with me! HA! Take that, loser!" "We? There are so many different meanings for 'we'. 'We the three of us,' 'We the people,' or my favorite, 'WEEEEEEEEEE!!'" Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
