2005-04-07 4:51 PM Almost realistic natural birth on TV Previous Entry :: Next Entry Mood: Happy Read/Post Comments (4) Last night Claire had her baby on "Lost". Since they're on a deserted island, it had to be a natural birth. I was sure they were going to do the 5 minute labor with screaming and crying, blah blah blah but they didn't. By the time Kate found her in labor, it looked like she'd gone off by herself during the early stages and had been in early labor for most of a day. Her water didn't break until right at the end and it had probably been an almost 24 hour labor. She actually told her *not* to hold her breath while pushing. :) No purple pushing! Yay! No counting to 10! And she wasn't lying on her back! Then, Claire was up and walking around the next morning instead of being incapacitated like they always show on tv.
Yay for someone doing their research! Now we'll just have to see if they show her breastfeeding. There's no formula or anything on the island so it's not like she has a choice. It's just up to the network to be brave and show it instead of avoiding it altogether. Turns out the episode was written by Janet Tamero who wrote the book "So That's What They're There For" (about breastfeeding). Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
