We got there in the late afternoon and the park was pretty crazy. It wasn't as packed as I'd expected, but we tried to go on the train first and were told it was closed indefinitely because people were crossing the tracks for a medical emergency. We got on the Buzz Lightyear ride pretty fast, but when Marcelo tried to go on Space Mountain (it officially reopens on the 15th, but they're doing a soft opening on the weekends), it was broken down. The fireworks didn't start until 9:25, and at about 8:30 I decided to take Marc to the baby center for a diaper change. The amount of people hadn't seemed so bad in Fantasyland, but as soon as I got through the castle, it was madness. It took me 20 minutes to get from the castle to the baby center. I decided to just keep heading down main street after the baby center so we could claim a spot for the fireworks. They'd totally closed the streets so people could sit in them to view the show. All of us (Danny, Jess, Dannika, Marcelo, Marc, and I) finally met up on the platform of the Main Street train station to watch the show. At 9:25, their regular 50th anniversary fireworks show began and then moved into the special 4th of July display at about 9:45. The 50th anniversary show is amazing. They start with the usual childhood nostalgia music and then do a little section for each of their big rides and the original rides. During the Pirates of the Caribbean part, you really could imagine that you're in the middle of a ship to ship pirate battle. During the Star Tours part, it's really like a space battle. Tinkerbell flies over the castle during a lot of the show and they do special lighting on the castle. During the Haunted Mansion part, they light it green and blue and they project ghosts moving on the walls. It's truly amazing. Marc fell asleep during the end and I couldn't believe it didn't wake him up. At the end of the 4th of July tribute to those serving in the Armed Forces, they were playing the Marines song (sorry, can't remember the name of it) and ended with huge booming fireworks that went on for probably 30 seconds. They also played bits of patriotic speeches (I have a dream, Ask not what your country can do for you, etc). All in all, a very nice 4th of July. :) Read/Post Comments (3) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
