My poor sicky

My poor Alex is sick this week. Over the weekend, he started developing a low grade fever (about 99 degrees). Since he's started pre-teething, I thought maybe it was from that, but I kept an eye on it. On Sunday, we went to a family function and I asked Marcelo's cousin, who is a pediatrician, about it. She told me if it got over 101 to take him to the doctor because that's high for a 3 month old. That night, it got up to 101.5. I took him to the doctor on Monday and since other than having a fever and being cranky he doesn't seem sick, that the doctor wasn't sure what it was. So, he bagged him for a urine sample (put a plastic baggie in his diaper to catch a sample) thinking it might be a bladder infection. He told me not to worry unless it got worse, i.e. he stopped eating. Tuesday, Marcelo left for Origins in Ohio and my mom came to visit. When she saw Alex, the first thing she asked was "what's that rash?" - he'd broken out in a rash while driving down to LAX. So, we were off to the doctor again. He said the rash is a classic symptom of a virus (meaning, of course, that there's nothing we can do about it but let it run it's course), and the preliminary results were back on the urine sample. He might also have a bladder infection but he can't say for sure until the culture comes back on Wednesday afternoon.

*sigh* So, meanwhile, my poor baby is just feeling awful. I know how much bladder infections suck, I get them several times a year. He's crying so much which is so unlike him. He's still making attempts to be his usual happy, smiling, talkative self but it doesn't last long. I don't know what I'd do if something were seriously wrong with him.

In other baby news, he's up to 13 lbs, 7 oz! He's such a big boy. He can roll over from his back to tummy now. He can also sit up. If I give him my fingers, he uses them to pull up (and then chews and slobbers contentedly on my fingers :) ). Sometimes, he's not happy with just sitting up and actually pulls up to standing! I don't remember Marc doing that until about 9 months and I'm pretty sure that was early. Alex is just so eager to follow his big brother around! I love how he just adores Marc. He watches him everywhere he goes. He's been smiling spontaneously for awhile now, but his first spontaneous smile was while watching Marc. :)

I love my boys!!
