A few weeks ago (while it was still extremely windy), Marcelo and I pulled up at the day care to see flames leaping up from behind a strip mall behind the school. The whole strip mall is a construction zone, but some of the stores are still open. I called 911 from my cell phone (T-Mobile) while Marcelo ran in to tell people in the shops and restaurant that there was a huge fire in the back of the building. By the time he'd gotten back to the car after warning all the businesses (and being ignored by most) I was *still* on hold with 911. By the time I got through to an operator, the fire trucks were arriving from someone else calling. What if it had been a life threatening situation? I'm starting to rethink not having a land line in my house.
