I assumed Tim Wynne Jones is somehow related to Dianna Wynne Jones of Howl's Moving Castle fame, but I don't actually know that for sure.

Anyway, he definitely has similiar writing skillz. Rex Zero and the End of the World was like looking at slightly yellowed photographs of childhood where I'm in pigtails and smiling and swinging on a tire swing.

It makes me feel all warm inside and nostalgic and hopeful at the same time.

Which is no mean feat for this book since its set during the cold war and most of the characters are obsessed about commies and bomb shelters and dangers that can't really be encompassed or faced down.

I assumed this was fantastic fiction when I borrowed it from the library, but it turns out it was fantastic in the sense of "great writing" rather than "magical."

Still, highly Recommended.
