I really got a kick out of reading Shirley Tallman's first Sarah Woolson (1880's, one of the first female lawyers ever in California to be accepted by the bar) mysteries, Murder on Nob Hill .

For my own taste, the only thing that was a little lacking was the romance, but really, it wasn't a lack.

The period details, the geography of San Francisco back then, the interesting history of China town, etc. made for excellent reading.

Once in a while I was like, "okay, we get it, back then women weren't allowed to be lawyers, okay with all the "fainting" woman comments by bigoted males," but I guess that would have really happened so I shouldn't be all tired of it.

Anyway, recommended.
