This is a story rooted in my knowledge of Oregon and inspired by the cross section of two songs: "Travelin' Soldier" by the Dixie Chicks and the song "Momma Look Sharp" from the musical 1776.
Yes, Kirsten's brain is constantly occupied but unexpected musical mashups. It's a fact of life. Anyway, noted speculative short fiction reviewer Rich Horton mentioned my story as one he liked in the anthology.
