LIST

Things that actually make me happy,
not just things that are supposed to

  • Spam with the subject line "My privet cam"

  • Encountering a Columbo episode I didn't know was on

  • First-blizzard-of-the-year bike ride in Forest Park

  • Booping baby noses (first 600 boops only)

  • When the tea order comes

  • Wife's talent for birthday presents

  • Surprise foot rub with lotion, only I have to wash the lotion off afterwards because I'm sorry, yes, it is greasy, and I can't walk around on that

  • Writing on the Long Island Rail Road to Montauk

  • When the waiter at the CafĂ© du Monde in Quebec City brings steak tartare samples out on endive leaves to pinpoint exactly how spicy I want it

  • Bringing the shoot in on schedule, to the minute

  • Everything's done and there's $15 left in the post budget

  • Beautiful sleeping baby, tiny curled hands

  • The explosive laugh after the heartstopping moment when they mentally rewind what you just said

  • Rear-heavy cat doing a bootlegger, tackling a flying Pounce treat
