2002-03-18 3:49 PM Current Reading When Jenn and I were in Tahoe on our honeymoon, we stopped by a bookstore in Cesars just to look around. They had an interesting collection. Admist the many scientific thought provoking books, I found one called To Engineer is Human: The Role of Failure in Successful Design. It sounded intriguing and Jenn encouraged me to buy it.
I did, and I've the first couple of chapters. It seems pretty good so far, but I'll reserve full judgement until I'm done. The writer seems to repeat himself a bit, but I don't mind too much. Some quick interesting points thus far have been about how we are conditioned as humans to expect structural failure throughout our lives and therefore when we grow up, we just take it in stride without really questioning it. He used nursery rhymes and stories as examples, like the Three Little Pigs (and their exploits in poor construction) or Rock-a-by Baby (where the tree breaks and the cradle falls), etc. Kinda interesting, if it continues to hold my interest I'll post a little more.
