Where is Neal Stephenson from?
Neal Stephenson is the author of Snow Crash (that many of you writer types probably already had commited to memory)...
I've noticed while listening to my Snow Crash audio book that he has intimate knowledge of the construction and layout of Los Angeles. The freeway systems, the major landmarks, etc. However... he refers to the 405 as "405" not "the 405." This seems like a minor thing, but NO ONE in Los Angeles refers to freeways as "405" or "110" it's always "the 405" or "the 110." It's something that many East Coast types notice when they come out here, because people on the East Coast don't use "the" in front of the freeway names.
So... my question to you is, is Neal Stephenson a Los Angelino with an editor from the East Coast or is Neal Stephenson an East Coaster with a good research talent?
