2005-01-27 5:01 PM Snowboarding I've been snowboarding 3 times now and I think I've finally decided.
I don't like it. It's not fun to me. It is like controlled falling, weighted more to the falling aspect and less to the controlled aspect. This being said, I did enjoy myself at times while snowboarding which was causing me to be unsure if I liked it or not. I've reflected and realized that the portions I enjoyed were mostly because I didn't fall. It wasn't the experience of what I was doing while I was upright, it was the relief that I didn't hurt myself. Sometimes it was a feeling of triumph that I had managed to accomplish the run without falling, etc, but it didn't have anything to do with snowboarding itself. I can get that same sort of feeling from playing a game of Go against Steven (who has been practicing and advancing quite nicely, so if I manage to win, that's quite a triumph) or killing an especially tough monster on WoW or hell even remembering to do all of the tasks I need to get done in a day (and doing them). While I was on the board, I didn't get to enjoy the scenery because I was too focused on maintaining balance or monitoring the others around me so I didn't run into them etc. If I want to enjoy the snow covered mountains, I'll do it from the hot tub. Warm, happy, unbruised. Read/Post Comments (4) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
