For those of you who have yet to do your taxes, and do them yourself on your own computer, consider purchasing TaxCut this year. We have been using TurboTax for many years, and had intended to do so this time around as well, but then read the recent reviews on Amazon.com

According to numerous people there and in other places, TurboTax has a stringent new licensing agreement AND installs spyware on your system. Like most of the reviewers there, I don't like either of those aspects, so moved to TaxCut. This alternative product turned out to be less expensive than TurboTax, however its interface sucks: more like just typing into a spreadsheet. But TurboTax didn't even send the usual bonus offers for purchasing early so they lose.

TaxCut imports TurboTax files easily, offers e-filing and contains all the standard goodies of TurboTax. Seems to be work fine, and shows we're getting a refund despite not paying tax on most of my summer's and fall's work at the time. That's what a large mortgage does for you...
