Despite celebrating her birthday today, Shelley went to work as usual...

She unwrapped a few gifts after work, though, and then I drove her down to The Rusty Pelican, a nice surf-n-turf restaurant in Glendale. Unknown to her, five of her good friends were already there. They saw us arrive and put up big menus in front of their faces so that as we approached the table Shelley couldn't see them and then did the "SURPRISE!" thing. (Good job guys!)

A crystal-clear sky and full moon made the drive down and back breathtaking. On clear days and nights like this, you can see all neon and flourescent beauty of the skyscrapers in downtown LA and Glendale coming down the freeway. All the vehicle lights and planes above LAX and even ships out on the ocean to the west contribute to the illumination and add motion to the scene.
