Chico's Nice

The conference at Chico turned out to be more interesting and enjoyable than I had anticipated. Only 180 people attended (but largest amount ever!) so many faces became familiar and it was easy to begin associating them with particular CSU campuses.

The Chico campus and surrounding area contain a lot of natural beauty. A pleasant trout-stream flows through campus, which sports many redwoods and other trees. Most of the buildings are of red brick, but of an old style. If I had to find another CSU campus to work at, then I'd put Chico high on the list. Northridge is terribly ugly and boring.

Down the street a short ways we have the Sierra Nevada Brewery. They rented this place for Thursday's dinner, and provided us with a small comedy improv troupe that was pretty amusing and the brewery's concoctions went down well. Watching all their automated equipment turning out pallet after pallet of bottled beer demonstrates why we are so much better than wild apes.

My randomly-assigned roommate hailed from the Humboldt campus, which is on the coast near Oregon and also looks like a nice place to live. He snored a lot and I had to sleep on an uncomfortable pull-out couch bed, so sleep could have been better. :-(

Good to be back to Friday-night gaming with Shelley, pets, pizza, and friends. Time to go get some better photos the latest glass project.
