The faculty member with whom I work most closely forwarded me a message from my real boss (whom I haven't seen in about a month) that she (my boss) had found out from her manager (who has his office near me) that my position is to be renewed for another year.

I was pretty much hoping that there wouldn't be funding for me, given the state budget crisis and all. I suppose it's not "right" to be hoping to be laid off when there are a lot of people who are laid off who want to be working.

I just can't bring myself to quit outright, with nothing else lined up, because it seems unwise. But being laid off and going on unemployment again is an altogether different situation. But it's not to be.

It's maddening trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up.
