Last summer, while I was abroad, Shelley put in a new bathroom cabinet and faucet after tearing out some splash tile and the old vanity. Since then we had a couple of boards serving for the surface because we couldn't decide what we wanted there.

A couple of weeks ago we made up our mind just to go with an install-it-yourself laminated top, and this weekend we finally got around to putting it in.

Toys used:

  • Jig saw
  • Dremel tool
  • Circular saw
  • Power drill
  • Belt sander
  • Tile saw

In addition to cutting the countertop to size and then cutting out the oval for the sink basin, we installed a couple of courses of tile as the backsplash, plus dealt with a jagged hole for an electrical outlet. Lots of mundane work, but the results look far better than two plain wooden boards.

The hardest part about the whole project was simply decided how to complete it. Erg.

Here's a photo taken a week later, with the tile installed by me, and the side shelves completed and installed by Shelley.

New countertop, new tile, new shelves. Took only a year.
