For some time now, CIT has been holding a monthly contest called "Walk for Wellness" to promote physical activity. Each month you send in your total number of miles walked (or convert miles biked, swam, etc.) and the highest total wins a prize, as does a randomly selected entrant. I've sent in my numbers regularly, even knowing they were nowhere near what's needed to win by merit.

Today was my lucky day, though, as the drawing recipient: a $25 certificate for a local sporting goods store. I intend to use it to buy a bowstring and arrows and play a little archery at home, although probably not until next spring. Now that we have land again, I can even see how far the arrows fly with now worries about hitting anyone next door.

The Cornell Wellness Program's also sponsoring a big walking contest for the whole month. As a result, I've had a pedometer attached to my hip during all waking hours. Based on usual walking numbers other CITers submit (nevermind the whole campus), I have no chance of winning anything, but it's interesting to see how many steps accumulate through the day. Apparently you want at least 10,000 for a healthy amount of non-sitting. I think I've topped that only one day so far.

To help the total along, though, and to capture the autumn colors around the campus lake and elsewhere, I've been out shooting a lot of panoramas today and over the last week or so.
