In order to prepare for a software demonstration here on campus, I've finally joined Facebook, a "social networking" site that lets people connect with friends old and new, as well as colleagues, acquaintances, friends of friends, and so on.
The whole point of Facebook is to see who has the most friends. Seems like that way, sometimes. The same day I set up my new account there, WIRED put out this Facebook Friendonomics opinion piece, which to some extent supports my general feelings of the site. At this point I don't intend to live on there but I will occasionally check in and see what people are up to. I have quite a list of long-lost friends that I had been interested in finding there that don't appear to have accounts at the moment, but perhaps some day they will.
