"In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." Kahlil Gibran

Spring has sprung!

It was a beautiful, perfect spring day. I took a walk around the farm...crocuses sprouting, buds on the trees, green Iris shoots peeking through the ground...a glorious day!

I almost got the spade out to dig up the earth to prepare for sowing some flower seeds but just didn't have the energy to do so. This stinkin cold is just hanging on and sapping my get up and go. So, I contented myself by sitting on the front porch and watching the birds.

There are so many different kinds of birds. Last year I got a set of binoculars and a bird watchers book to try to identify some of them...can't say that I've had a lot of success with that. I do know the woodpeckers, the cardinals, morning doves, swallows, robins and mocking birds.

I also recognize the turkey vultures....ugly looking creatures. But, they perform a great service...they go around and eat up all the road kill...which is plentiful this time of year. Guess we all have our place on this planet...even the ugly birds.

Watching the wildlife here on the hill is pretty facinating. We have foxes, coyotes, raccoons, cows, all kinds of bugs, rabbits, turtles, snakes, spiders, frogs...why its a regular zoo. We often see deer in the field in back of the house...they seem so tame and gentle...at least until hunting season.

Before I moved here to KY, I lived in upstate NY...a small town of about 32,000...not a large city, but certainly not rural. The sounds of traffic, industry, police and ambulance sirens and neighbors fighting was very commonplace.

Here, its serene, quiet, peaceful. The fact that I'm retired and don't have to face the daily rat race is a bonus. I love the calm, unhurried days. It gives me time to reflect..to remember, to contemplate and to just be.

I don't think it gets much better than this. If God made anything better, I think He musta kept it for Himself.

life is good.
