2006-05-10 1:53 AM quit smoking...lose weight...aauuugh! The same old thing...whenever I visit anyone with an MD after their name, I hear those two admonishions...don't smoke, eat healthy!
Today was no exception...we danced our little dance as we usually do...she chastises...I make excuses. In spite of all of that, the reports were good and I'm good to go for another 3 months. More than anything, I enjoy the ride to the doctor's office...this is the time of the year when all the farmers are busy and its fun to see them out in the fields with their big machines getting the ground ready for planting or harvesting hay...or whatever it is they do. Some of the fields are plush green, others are warm, rich brown where the soil has been turned. Baby ducks are swimming in the ponds and flowers are abloom everywhere. What a glorious time of year. My two kids...the ones who live here in KY, are arguing over where I should spend Mother's day weekend. I don't know if its a punishment or a reward for whoever gets me...the fun is listening to them argue over the whole issue. Chances are pretty good I'll go to my son's house cause I see him less often...and besides, he's got this mischievious little 10 year old Audrey who does her best to keep me amused. This is kind of a sad time for me...my own mother died the Friday before Mother's day some years ago. I have mixed emotions about the holiday...not that I didn't have them before she died. I always felt my kids treated me pretty well on every other day of the year, so they shouldn't have to do anything extra on one particular day, just so the profiteers could fill their pockets. Although...I do remember one year in particular that I really, really enjoyed. You know how kids are on Christmas morning...they're up at the crack of dawn looking for their goodies. I was looking for a little revenge I guess. This particular Mother's day, I woke all the little monsters up at about 5 in the morning demanding my goodies. I thought it was pretty funny...can't say the kids did. I could tell as they dozed off with their faces in the bowls of oatmeal, that early rising was not their idea of a fun time. jeesh...I miss those days.
