With Friends Like That, Who Needs Cats?

Saturday is catfood buying day. This past Saturday I went to my regular pet store (one of about a dozen in the neighborhood), grabbed a basket and walked to my aisle to buy the week's supply of wet cat food in a packet. There I saw listing of the specific flavors of the girls' cat food that were recalled. I approached the saleschildren.

"My cat food was recalled"?
Yes, but just the packets and just the wet.
"Well, that's what they eat."
We've removed all the recalled ones.
"Oh. Sam, our cat food was recalled."
Oh yeah, I meant to tell you. I read about it a week ago.
"Huh?"

I called my friend with whom I speak on the phone about a million times a day.

"My cat food was recalled."
Oh yeah, I saw that on the news. I meant to tell you.
"You meant to tell me?"
Yeah. Chinese Rat Poison. Do you know that it's one of the ingredients in chemo therapy? Chemo Therapy has rat poison in it. It must by, like, the worst thing you can do to your body.

Besides eating food with rat poison in it.

Maggie has been avoiding most of her food for the past few days. Stella a little, too. And she's been drinking a ton of water. Rats get thirsty, too, when they're poisoned.

Last night I went on the website. They're recalling all the wet food in packets. Great. I can get a full refund.

Each morning now I do a headcount to make sure all cats were alive and active.

Yeesh. I thought Sam loved the kitties. And telephone friend? What? Was she trying to prove a point? Cats and dogs are getting sick and dying all over the world because of this pet food.

I'm probably overreacting.
