Pleasant I had a very pleasant weekend with Greg, made even nicer by a visit with our friend David from Seattle. Saw "Ice Age" on Friday. It was a mildly entertaining movie - the rat thing is the funniest animated character I've ever seen. But, of course, the real reason to see "Ice Age" is to see the SW:Episode II "Clone War" trailer. Nice. I returned to class this week no more eager than my students, after a restful Spring Break. I did have an entertaining and grim discussion with some students after class today. Somehow the topic went from supernovae to Vikings to oral vs. written history to introduction of various diseases into an indigenous population to smallpox. One of my students used to be in the military, and he told us of all of the various injections he was given while serving. He had several smallpox inoculations, stuff for all sorts of other chemical agents, and various shots which never showed up on his medical records. Hmm. He took a chemical warfare course and was given a book with symptoms, responsible agents, and cures listed in a table. The most grim was the cure for a blood/respiratory agent - "reassure the person". A polite way to say "no cure", I guess. Grim Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
