Here's a copy of an email I sent to my department chair and office manager today:

"Um, upon letting the hot water run in the women's restroom in our new building today, a brief spurt of black water (like ink disseminated in water) came out. I had to wait a few seconds for the water to clear so that I could wash the discoloration from my hands."

"As this restroom is directly next to the water cooler, I'd appreciate some action, but I'm not sure whom to contact (or if they'd believe me, given that the problem seems to be over)."

"Thanks, I'll drink the bottled water and soda I just purchased now."

Gotta love the beginning of the school year.
