I've had a pleasant, relaxing weekend with Greg involving really good barbeque ribs and napping. The weekends are always too short. We should pass some sort of referendum to make weekends longer.

The 49ers lost to Denver. Egads. Well, at least the Rams lost, too. If you look at the standings in the NFL, no teams are really where you expect them to be. It's only the second week of the season, but it was a weird week.

The weirdest thing that happened this week was that I received my first "Notification of Student Death" of my teaching career. It was for an ASU student, who died two days before the semester started. I never met him, nor was I likely to because I merely supervise the TAs for the course. Still, it was very discomfiting to see that memo in my box.
