So, I was skimming the Arizona Republic today, and I found the "Political Insider" column, which calls itself a "tongue-in-cheek look at the past week in Arizona politics." A couple of interesting anecdotes, paraphrased from the column: U.S. Rep. John Shadegg apparently called environmentalists "evil" during a rally. The columnists checked with his press office, who remembered the phrase "idiot environmentalists", but not "evil." A check of the notes for the speech confirmed the use of the word evil, but it "didn't crop up until after he told the crowd that environmentalists don't believe in God." Nice. And a State Rep from Scottsdale, Colette Rosati, was questioning a representative from the Hopi tribe as to why the tribe is concerned that so many young Hopi leave the reservation. She was noting that seeking your fortune elsewhere is a key part of American history: "My thoughts are this," she forewarned. "Most of the people of North America are not from North America. We were initially settled by the Irish, who left Ireland because of the potato famine." Not my district. I didn't vote her into office.
