Today a student that I hadn't seen for two weeks showed up to lab...late, of course. He tried to sit down with the two young ladies who are his usual lab partners, and they were quick to point out to him that they were taking their LAB FINALS. I quickly ushered him out the door and offered him the supreme kindness of an incomplete grade in the course. That way, I look nice and have the full knowledge that he'll likely earn his "F" in the fall. Sigh.

I also had a voice message from a prospective student for the fall semester. I returned his call, to his cell phone with the really bad connection. He told me he wanted to enroll in the astronomy lecture and lab in fall, but was planning a 2 week vacation at the end of September - "Will that hurt my grade?" I started to tell him why I, personally, thought it was a bad idea, but he then cut me off because he didn't have time to talk to me anymore. Who knows...maybe he'll be quite successful next semester. I didn't find him quite successful today.
