2003-09-30 9:44 PM To recall or not to recall? Mood: curious Read/Post Comments (8) |
I spent my first 23 years in the state of California. My mother, brother, and sister still live there, and one of my nieces attends UC Davis. My best friends and Greg's family live there. I try to keep up on the news in California. I've been following the Recall, and just got off the phone from a heated discussion with my mother about it. I couldn't really care less who the governor of California is, but I am disturbed by the precedent set by this recall, where the highest official in a state is being recalled without evidence of criminal misconduct. The citizens of California voted Davis in for a second term with an appalling voter turnout - why do they get to change their mind without waiting for the end of the term? Without getting into a "Davis vs Arnie" debate, I'm interested in other people's views about the possible long-term effects of this recall on the election process. Anyone care to share?
