2006-11-25 8:52 AM that's not the story I remember Bridge to Terabithia has been made into a movie.
On the one hand, this is so wonderfully cool. Wonderworks made a pretty okay version in the 1980's, and now Disney and Walden Media have taken their shot. It's a really great story, and one I've always had a fondness for, since I was young. On the other hand, it looks as if they've turned it into a Narnia/LOTR/fantasy film of the moment sort of film. This is really disappointing. I hold out hope that this is just how it appears, how they're marketing it so people will go and see it. I mean, that's cool and all, but that's not the story, you know? (Not that there won't be some changes anyway. They're making a movie from a book. They won't be the same thing, but there's not the same thing and then there's, "Well, the characters have the same name...".) The other reason I'm holding out hope is because Disney (and was it Walden Media?) released a pretty nice version of Tuck Everlasting, another favorite. Oh well, the one good thing about releasing BtT right now is that when Narnia is referred to, the kids in the audience will know what is being talked about because a) they've probably seen the film from last year, and b) maybe have even read it now due to the latest resurgence in fantasy.
