heathcliff

You know, I find it interesting that so many women just pretty much gush at the thought of Johnny Depp playing Heathcliff. And I have to ask, what's up with this?

I don't mean to sound like I'm trying to be smart here, I really wonder.

Is it lust for Johnny Depp, Heathcliff, or both?

As for myself, I have thought Johnny Depp was just pretty much fabulously amazing since I was, um, what they now refer to as a "tween". 21 Jumpstreet, which we received in syndication as we didn't get FOX at that time, was very cool, and then there was Edward Scissorhands. I mean, can we say how hot was that? And he's just continued to sizzle more and more over time.

And then there's Heathcliff. Now, I have got to say that Heathcliff probably isn't the nicest character to ever jump off the page. Truly a Byronic hero, he is tormented, mean, and just plain screwed up. And yet, there's just something there that's not only fascinating, but appealing. And what's up with that? I mean, I married a nice man. I like nice men. I could go through all the reasons why I suspect Heathcliff is so appealing to me, but I suspect it's for the same reasons other people have found him appealing.

What about you? I would really like to know. Is it just Johnny? Is it Heathcliff? Or is it the combination of the real life actor as the dark gypsy that caused you to drool?

(This is me, the anthrogeek/writer, studying human nature.)

Of course, anyone with any insight as to why Heathcliff is so fascinating is welcome to post any comments.

I await them, eagerly.
