now we are 5

Avadore is five.

I hope he is having a good birthday. He has been a little bummed for part of the day and I feel a wee bit bad about that. But he adored his Pirates of the Caribbean cake. (I wonder if Johnny Depp ever expected to show up on a birthday cake...) It was chocolate with raspberry filling and lots o' pirate stuff on top. He also seems to like his presents so far, especially since his dad and I had both forgotten (until J-Spot mentioned it) that we have one last present in the trunk of the car. Ooops.

But in the meantime LD is having stomach issues again.

*sigh*

And Rice was given more work to do by Monday. And he's been called into jury duty as of tonight.

So, the Spots kindly took Avadore to the movie he wanted to go see for his birthday while I stay with LD and Rice works.

I was going to go see my family tomorrow, especially my grandmother who really wants me to visit. But, of course, I won't be going, not with child #2 hurling like he's freakin' out of The Exorcist or something. I hate to disappoint them, and myself (I love my family, especially my grandmother), but what do you do, right?

And, of course, all this will probably impact my birthday as well.

Original birthday plan:

Saturday:

-Writing at coffee shop
-Maybe browsing through books
-Sushi lunch with in-laws
-Dessert with Rice's grandmother (who isn't doing well at all, and will be moved to a nursing home this month)
-Watching Pan's Labyrinth, which is actually going to be showing an hour from here, up north (simply amazing that it would come there being a foreign fantasy film, I tell you)
- Msssage, if I could get in on Saturday
- Having a quiet dinner, and doing fun stuff together
- Eating chocolate cake in bed
- Stuff with family on Sunday

As you can all see, I think you tend to have fabulous birthday suggestions. I think the cool thing about asking others what they would do and trying it is that you'll perhaps find something you adore you've never tried before (e.g. eating cake in bed), or you'll be reminded of how much you love something and hadn't thought of doing it for your birthday (massages).

Current birthday plan:

To begin with, it depends on if I can ignore a bunch of stuff that needs to be done around here. ("Oh, look! More laundry!" *bangs head* "Stop that! Look there -- a book!") But we have this cool TV and DVD player for a reason, and Hollyweird must have some purpose on this earth, other than just taking up space. I have some lovely books to read, and I can write at my kitchen table with a cup of tea. (A little more, "Mom, can I have a sandwich, please?" and such stuff, versus the whip of the espresso machine.)

There is no sushi in this town, except for the occasional Thursday evening, and there's no guaranteeing that the person preparing the sushi knows what they're doing. There was a place in town that had it available on Wednesdays, but evidently the person preparing it had no clue. I could make my own, but I suspect finding some of the ingredients may prove interesting.

We do, however, have access to chocolate cake. Not as cool as some of the cake up north by any means, but it's still chocolate, and it's still cake. Chocolate cake is sort of like pizza and sex -- under normal circumstances, even when it's bad, it's good.

I will also try to prevent LD from hurling on carpet. Hopefully, however, he'll be better soon. This is day #3 of this, and it's not so much fun for him, I am sure. He certainly doesn't seem to enjoy it.

I would by lying if I said I'm not a tad bit disappointed. My birthday is the one day of the year that I (and most everyone around me) allows me to do pretty much what I want, and I don't feel bad about not checking to see what everyone else wants to do. (For example, when we were in Salt Lake I tried to do stuff that Winter would like versus all the stuff I wanted to do.) My in-laws tried to plan out this weekend for us, but Rice stepped up and said, "Now wait a minute", bless him. (I still tried to find a happy medium by asking them to lunch.)

So maybe this year I'll claim the Saturday before Mother's Day and go do some fun stuff. Maybe I'll eat sushi then, and eat cake in bed.

Well, I have one more present to rescue from the car. Avadore will be home from his movie soon, which I hope he has thoroughly enjoyed, and I suspect he'll want to be digging into some pizza.

On last note: When Rice dropped off Avadore's cupcakes for school yesterday, he was greeted by one of the aids asking if he'd brought the pancakes. Rice was confused. Then he saw Avadore's teacher, who also brought up pancakes, and said that they had the syrup and jam ready. Evidently Avadore had excitedly informed everyone that his Daddy was coming to school and was going to bring pancakes for everyone. When Rice came home and told me this I thought I would die laughing.

What a sweet kid.
