yes, that degree

The thing about anthropology is that it draws on a large number of other disciplines -- government, history, economics, religion, chemistry, biology, geology, literature, foreign languages, people skills, sports, medicine, philosophy, music, business, social theory, I could go on... You can take practically any discipline and combine it with anthropology, somehow.

In any event, as a result of both the undergrad and grad years, as well as personal interests, I have a pretty diverse background.

One of these backgrounds is in nutrition. I've actually had more nutrition than your average nurse and doctor, unless they focused on it specifically in some respect, and then it's debatable. (Trust me -- this makes for interesting conversation with the health care professionals in the family. "But you're an anthropologist. What do you know, other than how to rob graves?" But I get this from a lot of scientific types.)

Um. Sorry. *ends snark*

Stupid degree. I wish I could feign ignorance when the topic of necessary diets for loved ones come up, and say, "Sure, that sugared/corn syruped thing you have there is great for you." Or, "Low-glycemic diet? What are they thinking? You never would have heard that from me." Lots better than, "Drop the Hot Tamale Mints, bucko."1

Buggers.

Recently I had someone tell me they could tell I was addicted to sugar because of my love of office supplies. According to this person, people who love office supplies are addicted to sugar. Said love is a symptom of said addiction. And here I thought I just appreciated a good pen to write my stories with. ;)

1 And no, I don't go around commenting on everyone's diets. There's back story here. I'm just not going into it.
