2007-08-04 3:54 PM the news I have, in the past, complained about living in such a small community that there is no real news in the paper. I've complained that the major stories have revolved around self-published local poets who write really ... painful ... poetry, or Bigfoot, or local kids playing in their wading pool.
Today I looked at the front page for the town I just moved from and suddenly I retracted my wish. The main news was about Bush visiting Minneapolis due to the recent collapsed bridge, and another story about the floods in India. I get enough of these stories from CNN. It tells me something when the local paper thinks they're important. This story, however, cheered me up. It's about a "...self-described 74-year-old tinkerer, retired heating contractor, bladder cancer survivor and Korean War veteran" who created biodiesel run cars for he and his girlfriend. It also talks about how he makes his own fuel. ''There is one drawback to this,'' he said. ''Your exhaust smells like French fries.'' EXCELLENT!
