why i don't have a job

A lot of people, particularly feminists, have a hard time understanding why I would stay at home with my kids instead of getting a job. (And I think it's partially because a lot of women forget feminism is about choice. They choose to work because it's best for them; I choose to stay home with my kids because it's best for me.)

Avi's been really sick lately. Very, very sick. We thought he was better, and so we sent him to school today. His teacher called at 11:25 to tell me he wasn't feeling well. I told her I would be right there, and I was. (The school is 2.5 miles away.)

When I arrived he was lethargic, pale, and had a fever of 102.5. (Which, thankfully, is lower than it had been when he had the fever this weekend.)

This is why I don't have a job. My mother could never do this for me as she always worked (mostly for her own sanity, I think, and I truly appreciate that), and my father worked away from home from the time I was two or so. My grandmother always took care of me when I was sick, which was quite frequently. I was sick all the time as a kid.

Every kid needs someone they love to be able to take care of them when they're sick, and if it's at the drop of a hat, so much the better.
