on my books

So I think we've previously established that I have a lot of books.

If you ever come visit, I would advise you to not comment on my books unless you think it is cool that I have my own library. Such commentary is fine, and will probably lead to a great discussion.

If seeing my books does not excite you I want you to know that yes, I am aware they take up space and they take effort to move. And that's my choice. I am thirty-three-year-old and I choose to have a library.

I also want you to consider this: I am a writer. A significant source of my income comes from writing fiction and non-fiction articles. Every single book I own is a tool. Like a carpenter needs his hammers and chisels and nails, I need my books. I use them for reference, research, and to teach me how to write. I own many books I have needed for work that contain information not easily accessible to me otherwise. They are also a great source of pleasure for myself, my family and my friends.

And yes, I have read them all, except for those that were recently acquired. (Another reason being a writer rocks -- free books.)

And mostly I'm just venting, after years of listening to people come to my house and make commentary on my books that is not characterized by any sort of approval or neutrality.
