2010-05-04 9:16 AM FOGcon It was during the 2009 Potlatch that I first heard about FOGcon. I had just moved to the Bay Area from Idaho, and was looking forward to being involved with the local SFF community. FOGcon was a brilliant glimmer in the eyes of some dedicated SFF writers (like Vylar Kaftan), and I was instantly hooked.
From the (beautiful made-of-awesome) website: The Friends of Genre Convention (FOGcon) is a literary-themed San Francisco SF/F con in the tradition of Wiscon and Readercon. Each year we'll focus on a new theme in speculative fiction and invite Honored Guests ranging from writers to scientists to artists. We will build community, exchange ideas, and share our love for the literature of imagination. This year's theme is The City in SF/F and our wonderful guests include Pat Murphy (I know!) and Jeff VanderMeer (seriously!). The convention is going to be held March 11-13, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway in San Francisco's Nob Hill District. Adult memberships are $55 until November 1; $65 from November 2, 2011, until February 1, 2011; and $75 at the door. Youth memberships (ages 11-17) are $45. Children through the age of 10 are free. To register, visit http://fogcon.org/registration. I'm so excited to be part of a con that not only has a literary theme but is also focused on community. One of the beauties of SFF is the exploration of ideas and the joining together of humanity (whatever that humanity may be :)). I believe FOGcon will be able to provide an opportunity for members of the SFF community to bask in these elements on the west coast, as other fantastic cons have done elsewhere. I hope you'll join us. Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
