2007-05-11 6:26 PM Smokers: get over yourselves. Why does everyone hate tobacco companies? I don't understand. I recently read an article which said that movies glamorizing smoking will be given an R rating. What is our country coming to? We're turning into a nation of soft, touchy-feely crybabies who are constantly told that if we have a problem, hey, it's not our fault. It's a sickness. It's a hereditary addiction, we're victims of cruel money hungry conglomerates who rape the good intentions of America's innocent citizens. If a Marlboro commercial makes you want to go out and buy a pack, then dammit, Marlboro's marketing department has done their job. Banning smoking in movies is suggesting that people are too stupid and shallow to make their own decisions and that a 90 minute Hollywood production has the power to brainwash millions into purchasing a known carcinogen. I don't know anyone who started smoking because they saw it in a movie. While we're at it, we should also give movies where actors are seen eating fast food an R rating too, since fast food leads to obesity and a plethora of health problems. What about cell phones, since people who talk and drive are more likely to be involved in an accident? We should also ban drinking, knives, guns, poisonous household products, fast cars, hot coffee, and anything else that could potentially be a threat to human existence. In fact, I think movies should stop being made all together since Hollywood has run out of ideas and is relying on sequels, prequels, and remakes to compensate for their lack of talent and unwillingness to take a chance on a new idea for fear of losing money, so they wind up spending millions on bland, played out wastes of cinematic time like Spiderman 3 which happened to be the worst movie ever.
