2008-11-20 9:35 AM What's up with purity rings? I don't quite understand the purpose of a purity ring. I know it symbolizes that one will remain a virgin until marriage, which is a noble standard to hold oneself up to. But why do you need a ring to show it?
I'm not knocking people's views on sex. I just find it a tad unsettling that fifteen-year-old children parade promise rings on their fingers, thereby alerting all interested parties that they are off limits. Why do kids need to be advertising that the shop is closed for business to the entire world? Isn't that a discussion one should have at an appropriate time in a relationship? Yes, this entry has been inspired by Miley Cyrus, whose ring represents a promise she made to her father that she would stay pure until she tied the knot. Hmm. When I was fifteen--no, even now--there is no way in HELL that I would EVER talk to my father about sex, ever, not in ten lifetimes. Yeah yeah yeah, you need to talk to your kids about sex and drugs and whatnot, but please. Telling your father that you're not going to let anyone park their car in your garage is CREEPY. If I didn't know any better I would swear that Miley and her father are in a serious relationship. He crosses the line when it comes to protective father. Being photographed with your teenage daughter sitting in your lap is not cute, nor is riding on her coattails. You are a has-been, Billy Ray. Get over it. And take your promise rings with you.
