Just a quick note, here, before I shut down my office computer and climb on that ribbon o' highway . . .

It's been nearly a week of teaching, and I must say, at the moment I feel quite a bit like a deer caught in headlights. I'm finding the juggling of classes and obligations - items to prepare, items to read and return, items to carry back and forth to class - to be mind-boggling at the moment. I know that the beginning of the semester is a lot like beginning a knitting project: lots of logistics as you cast on the stitches and learn the pattern, lots of missteps and ripped-out and redone stitches, and like that. But sooner or later the pattern becomes second nature, and the work gains a little substance and weight, and it's all a lot easier.

Right at the moment, though, I feel quite overwhelmed by it all.

Ah, well. Here's hoping the drive takes the edge off . . .
