No, not Eureka, CA . . .

Eureka! because I was able to get my bike fixed. I got to the bike shop at around 11:00, intending to leave the bike there while I looked around Berkeley for a while, but as it turned out, they could fix it while I waited. (I'd probably have preferred to leave it, since I hadn't had breakfast and was starving by then, but oh, well . . . ) So the bike is as good as new now - and better than when I started on the trip, because other stray parts had broken in previous trips. But it rides like a breeze now . . .

After the bike escapade, I had lunch at a Tibetan restaurant. I was expecting Indian food, more or less, but actually, it wasn't. I had an appetizer of potatoes fried with garlic, ginger, and coriander; and the main dish was steamed beef dumplings (which seemed Oriental to me) served on top of a thick gingery sauce, and covered with tangy salad. It was delicious!

Then I pedaled around the UC Berkeley campus for a while. It's very nice; I got several pictures which I will someday upload, I feel sure of it . . . It was a lot like Ann Arbor, in that there were all sorts of geeky-looking young people and professorial-looking (aka geeky) older folks. I only heard snippets of conversations; they revolved around politics and trips to Europe and such . . .

The prosperous campus formed a contrast with the city of Berkeley, which seemed somewhat run-down: Lots of closed storefronts, and lots of homeless people. I didn't actually stop in any of the bookstores because if I buy anything else on this trip I'm going to have to buy a bigger suitcase . . . and, too, I really just wanted to ride around a while. Basically, though, Berkeley looked like a college town . . .

I left kinda early because I was a bit concerned about the BART schedule. Bikes aren't allowed on BART during the evening commute, and I wanted to be sure that I got back to Concord before the rush started. I briefly considered going somewhere else - like maybe Golden Gate Park - before returning 'home,' but I also wanted to get here in time to go to the grocery store and begin preparing dinner . . . I've got a pork tenderloin marinating . . .

. . . and Kevin just walked in, hours early, so I better get going . . .
