Well, here's an entertaining little poll in the Wall Street Journal today concerning the No Child Left Behind act. It's a short little poll: The question is "How would you gauge the Federal No Child Left Behind act?" The answer choices are "it has improved education," "It hasn't changed anything," and "it hurts education."
If you vote, you get to see the results so far after you submit your vote. Pay particular attention to the heights of the bars in the graph relative to the percentages they purportedly display. Tee, hee!! I love seeing graphs like this, because they prove to me that innumeracy is a far worse problem than illiteracy . . . as a writing teacher, I get so-ooo tired of being blamed for everyone's misspellings. Of course, nobody would ever squawk about innumeracy, because if people could do math, they'd be able to figure out how much richer the rich are getting . . . much safer to raise a stink about whether or not people can read Shakespeare, because even if they can, the threat to the wealthy is far less immediate . . .
