I keep meaning to talk about Moebius strips, because I've been fascinated by them for a long time. When I was about ten, I learned what they were; we had a series of Time-Life Books on various aspects of the sciences (the only two I remember are the ones about light and math, although there were about ten or twelve books in the series). The math book had an entry on Moebius strips, and I remember sitting up in my room and making one . . . cutting it in half, and then cutting it three times, and watching what happened.

At about the same time I ran across this limerick in one of my reading books at school:

Flippity floppity flip,
the mouse on the Moebius strip.
The strip revolved,
the mouse dissolved,
in a chronodimensional blip.

I thought it was a howler at the time, and I like it just as much now as I did then . . . I'm knitting a new Moebius, and as I was knitting last night, the first two lines of the limerick kept running through my head, but I couldn't remember the rest. I finally googled it today so I could post it here, and the first hit I got was another knitter's blog, which somehow didn't surprise me . . . this form is incredibly fun to knit. Cat Bordhi (who is a brilliant designer) talks about the magical power of Moebius knitting. (She gets a bit vague and sentimental, though; I'd have been happier if she acknowledged that the magic was in the math.)

More to say, but no time. It has been a wonderful weekend here, and hope others have had the same . . .
