Hunh. I just heard an interview on NPR with somebody - I missed his name - who's done an autobiography of LBJ. (The story was really well done. It was interspersed with clips of LBJ speaking - wow. He sure sounds like an sob nowadays . . . ) He said that LBJ was very disturbed that persons of privilege could buy their way out of the armed services, so he instituted the draft lottery. Immediately, the nature of the anti-war protests shifted, as educated, affluent people joined in. And that's why we got out of Vietnam.
