OK, so on Sunday, the world I left looked like this:
And the world to which I came back looked like this: I swear, the temperature inside the terminal building at DTW (mostly glass) was lower than it was outside the terminal building in Lafayette. In Detroit, people were sitting around at the gates with their coats on. In Lafayette, they were sitting in outdoor cafes in shirtsleeves. But of course, freak that I am, I loved coming back to all the snow and cold. In fact, I wanted to be outside so much that I had to take Wally for two walks yesterday . . . (it's a bit too cold to ski; once it's below 10 degrees F, I can't wax very well.) We went up to the small wetland near our house: (I'm thinking I could skate on that pond!) Doesn't it just look COLD out there? Or maybe I think so because I know it really is . . . I love winter, I really do. I definitely enjoyed my mini-break - enough to think that a few days away in the sunshine during February would be an outstanding annual tradition, if we could manage it - but I would be really sad if I never got to experience cold and snow. Just as a reminder to those of you who have cabin fever and think I've lost my marbles, I offer this quote, which I came to by way of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's blog (so if the attribution is wrong, blame her, not me! :) "No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn." -Hal Borland Read/Post Comments (0) Previous Entry :: Next Entry Back to Top |
