I don't know what to think of Austin. I just got back from spending the weekend there, and I'm not quite sure what I make of the place.

-wait-

Before I go any further, I must say that Chuy's is an incredible Tex-Mex place. I absolutely love that place, in an unconditional love type of way. Great chips and salsa, great food, and great atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

-back to reality-

Austin is just a funky place. First off, UT is such a large campus, that it's a bit intimidating when you're navigating your way through the campus. As compared to UT, UNT looks like a community college. But I love UNT. It's been my home for 5 years, and I love it's small sized-everybody knows your name-feel to it.

When most people think of "College," I think something like UT comes to mind. Big sprawling campus, large trees stretching over the streets, huge libraries, enormous football stadium. It's certainly an interesting place.

Austin-ites are kinda...I'm undecided on them. I'm sure there are TONS of cool, hip progressive people there, but it seems to me that UT is overrun with these pseudo-drop out hippy types. They're the ones who have been known to say something like this, "Man...screw the government man...they're just oppressive, man...pass me my bong, man, I got some Bob Marley to listen to."

I'm sure there are plenty of great activists out there, but I wonder how great things would be if these burn-outs actually put their energies into positive ways to change things, instead of just lighting up and zoning out. But I don't know, and am totally just judging a book by it's zig-zag cover.

Oh, and the traffic is horrible in Austin. At least the weekend traffic was horrible. I have no idea what the rest of the week is like, but man oh man, 2 lanes never filled up so fast.

But Austin's a great place though. It's got it's own feel that can't be duplicated anywhere else in the country. I'm definitely going to have to go back for a second and third opinion.
