Waiting in Line

Since I have a few minutes before class, I thought I'd take a moment or two to describe what the line was like last night.

After getting released from class early yesterday, Anya decided to go ahead and head on down to Grapevine to reserve our spots in line. We made it to Grapevine around 3:00, and after having a quick lunch in the food court, we went outside to wait in line.

Grapevine sold out 14 theaters last night, and eventually had to open up 5 1:00 am showings to accomodate the well over 5,000 people that showed up to our one theater alone. They divided the lines up into which theater number one had on their ticket stub. There weren't many people (about 100) outside when we got there, but there were absolutely NO people in our theater's line, so we were teh absolute first people to wait in line.

We sat there for about 30 minutes before the next people started showing up. It wasn't until after 5:00 when all the rest of the people started showing up. And when they started showing up, the outside lobby filled up fast.

Anya and I accomodated some friends and let them come up to the front of the line with us. They all arrived well before the line started to get too massive, which prevented any kind of hissy fit that someone could have thrown about this "cutting in line." If the line had been more than 10 people at the time of their arrival, I would have told them to just wait in the back and we'd reserve them seats.

There were a lot of fans dressed up in costume. The two best that I saw was this one man dressed in the full Vader costume, while another man dyed his hair and beard white, and had on the full EpIV Obi Wan costume. The rest of the costume varied in quality. There were some people that showed up later in Sandpeople and Yoda costumes that were pretty awesome as well. There was of course the requisite Boba Fett and Amidala costumes, but surprisingly were not any Han Solo or Leia costumes.

Being part of a group, we individually got to walk around the line and the food court, while other people saved our spots in line. This was really great for the legs, and for keeping the sometimes intense boredom at bay.

Katie, Dan, and the kiddos dropped by to see what the line was like, and to check out all the cool costumes. Katie and Dan seemed really anxious to see the movie, which is a good thing considering we're all going to see the movie tonight at the exact same place.

The time really flew by as we waited in line. I thought that the line was going to take longer than it did, but the 8.5 hours of waiting really did seem to fly by.

I have to go to class now, but expect a full on review either tonight or tomorrow sometime. :-)
